6 Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day for Single People

Who said Valentine’s Day isn’t for singles? It is the day of the hearts and every beating heart deserves to be celebrated, especially the brave and independent ones who dare to sail the turbulent seas alone on rafts because they have no ship − er should I say relationship?

So if you are still reading this despite the pun, you must be in serious need of ideas. Here is a list of things to do on V-day for single people:

  1.   Gift yourself this special day.

2

Wake up early, do the morning routine, apply that moisturizer, and eat healthy food. Why not buy yourself a flower and put it on a vase? Write on your journal while drinking tea in a special café. Visit a beautiful place and watch your favorite movie at home by night.

Give yourself the nicest day because you are loved. Love yourself enough that when someone shows up to love you, you will not settle for less.

  1.    Go and do what you love.

3

Listen to your favorite songs. Go to your special place, the park, a church, or your parent’s home. Try what you have been rooting to do, paint, dance, or sing. Listening to your passions is one beautiful way of loving yourself.

  1.    Come out.

5

Coming out is not only for the LGBT community (but still, this is a good day to “come out”), in fact, everyone has something to clarify or confess. Sometimes we are so locked that our hearts are not known even to ourselves. Take the day to take a step back for a while and ask yourself, “Am I who I want to be?”, “What is stopping me from being who I must be?” If we answer this, we get close to achieving authenticity. By then, we can come out to the world with no reservations and with more acceptance.

Be true to yourself and let yourself be known. Scribe your existence in every mind that matters.

  1.    Be brave.

4

It is the day of the hearts and the courageous ones are the ones who will make the most out of it. So seize the day and do what shakes you. Confess to your crush, enroll that course, speak up. Yes, things may not go as you plan it but just by trying, you already won.

  1.    Volunteer.

6

Don’t know what to do with all the love you are willing to give? Share it to the people who need it the most! This day is the perfect day to give your heart to whatever cause you believe in. You may help feed street children, visit the elderly, built habitats, or adopt an animal. There are many organizations looking for volunteers on the internet. Reach out and you will be found.

  1.    Meet new people.

7

One of the best feelings in the world is meeting people who share the same struggles and joys as you. Visit old friends and meet their new buddies, smile at strangers, be open to communication. Make new friends and who knows? You may even find the one.

Because of toxic chemicals as a result of poor waste management, it destroys most of the home for aquatic animals, and don’t forget that not only those animals are ones who breathe down those chemicals, even us.

Those small plastic bags that you throw out on the streets can clog our sewage and cause flooding around our areas while some are being mistaken as food by our marine creatures and killing them day by day.

So just think how long before all those plastics can be collected and how much time left does that choking little critter have before it’s too late.

However, the blame shouldn’t really be put on plastics but rather how it traveled there. You don’t need to be an environmental expert to simply pick-up that small piece of plastic in front of you and put it in its rightful place.

The world is evil enough as it is. So do your part in saving our mother nature. How you may say?

Experience Philippines is inviting you to help save our mother nature but at the same time offering you a fun and crazy environment as you learn surf under the sun til’ it goes down.

Filipinos treasure relationship even with people they don’t know and having a good drink with them is also one of our ways to build a relationship but there is always a catch. Let’s just say that not a lot of people have high alcohol tolerance.

Especially for women, since most of them weigh lesser than men, they have less water in their bodies. Which means their alcohol blood concentration is higher than men.

1111

But don’t worry girl! We got you covered. Here are some tips to survive those all night drinking escapades.

  1. EAT. EAT.

Photo from: Pulutan Club

Photo from: Pulutan Club

There’s a saying in the Philippines when someone is eating all the food or in this case the “Pulutan” (Appetizers). They would yell “Ginagawa mong kanin yung pulutan” (You’re eating the appetizers like a bowl of rice).

Well it’s because it’s a strategy to increase your alcohol tolerance. Food can delay the absorption of alcohol into your blood stream, especially foods that are rich in fats and proteins.

  1. HYDRATE!

Photo from: Healthline

Photo from: Healthline

Since alcohol is diuretic that can lead to dehydration and hangovers. A dehydrated brain is a dysfunctional brain. In this case, water will be a life saver. Make sure to drink water in between drinks.

Although this could increase your visits to the comfort room it is a sure way of decreasing your chances of getting drunk.

  1. REST

Photo from: FilmSupply

Photo from: FilmSupply

If you’re feeling woozy by all the alcohol consumption, you may opt to rest a little. Getting out of the circle could also be a good way of letting the alcohol flow through from your brain down to the comfort room.

Make sure to be in a windy spot. It will enhance your consciousness and can make you feel relaxed.

Nutritional Yeast

Bonus tip: Eat yeast. Yes! You read it right. before the party you may opt to take a teaspoon of yeast and it can make you a drinking-god. You can also mix it with yogurt.

It has an enzyme called alcohol dehydrogenase which breaks down alcohol into carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. So with this enzyme in the system, the body will be able to break down alcohol before it gets into the bloodstream and affect our brains.

Most people have certain preconceived notions about what Parkour is. They have seen it on YouTube and assume it is about physicality, danger and risk. But it is not only about developing physical prowess. It is about developing a psychological mindset that helps you move through life more effectively.” — Forrest Mahop, Parkour instructor in East London.

WHAT IS PARKOUR?

Parkour can be defined as the practice of moving logically and creatively through a – typically – urban setting to get from a start point to an end point as quickly as possible. To others, they perceive the sport as dangerous and a criminal act but yet, every sport is always related to risks; hiking, Gymnastics, Football, Boxing, Wrestling, etc.

Little do they know that the center of Parkour though intense, visceral and creative, it’s a way of feeling the city or the environment in whole different way. Seeing the environment in a whole new perspective; creating connection to those who are around us.

Parkour

“one of the most striking differences between parkour and other so-called ‘extreme’ sports – it is not concerned solely with the acquisition of physical skills, but also with the improvement of one’s mental and spiritual well-being. Ensuring that physical progress is not at the expense of mental progress is one of the main aims of a good traceur” (cited in Jones n.d., para. 22).”

Parkour

Traceurs experts perceive their practice as overcoming their fears and inhibitions and pushing their selves beyond what they thought was their limitation. Parkour will push you physically and mentally.

It may be hard at the beginning but with time, you will master strength and coordination as you conquer obstacles along your way and gain courage and boldness as you walk through life.

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

1

The best example for people who overcame their fear are daredevils. Daredevils are simply the ones who DARES with the Devil aka. Death.  But that doesn’t mean they aren’t afraid of anything.

It’s the miscalculation of death that they fear. Little loopholes that were not envisioned the course of the plan.

Photo from: @wildboysteve

Photo from: @wildboysteve

According to most daredevils, their fear is not DEATH itself but rather the THOUGHT of not doing what they could. DEATH is just a form of miscalculated risk for them. An event they didn’t foresee.

For them, the real fear is the thought of failure and regrets of not doing the things that could go beyond their limits and potential capabilities. It’s the thought of giving up and not being a strong enough, wise enough, quick enough and sharp enough person that they wanted to be.

So how do we prevent these miscalculations? You must know yourself inside-out, from your body to your mind. Overcome weaknesses and focus on strengths, have control over your actions, train your senses and reflexes, be analytical in your calculations, wise with your emotions, quick in your decisions, enrich yourself with different skill and, be enthusiastic yet calm.

3

Life is too short to be drowned by your fears and phobias. By the age of 20, life goes by so fast that the next time you’d blink, you’d realize 3 or 5 years had passed. So don’t keep that bucket list hanging in the side of the room.

FLY WITH US!

One of the helpful ways to confront fear is by doing something extreme. So why not try Paragliding? Fly with a professional and experience how to fly like the birds above while enjoying the scenery and the sun upon your face.

We’ll guarantee you’ll overcome anything when you try this banana-shaped fabric and make memories with friends that you surely won’t forget.

Take Photos and Memories That Sparks Joy

Weddings can be the most exciting time for both bride and groom. Who would not be excited when you get to profess your love in front of your loved ones, you Creator and your soon-to-be partner in life?

One of the ways couples now commemorate their wedding is a prenuptial shoot. It is a special way of expressing your love in a creative way via the photos that you share with your family and friends. More importantly, is to have them is because you can show these photos to your children in the future to show the love that you share with your spouse (and how good you looked when you were young!).

In the Philippines, more and  more couples  are arranging for a prenuptial shoot that is creative and unique and representative of their love, their style and personalities. Many times you can’t just trust on your photographer’s creative freedom. You and your soon to be partner for life need to be proactive in the whole shooting process.

Here are some tips on getting you started on your prenuptial photoshoot:

1.   Remember Your Story Together

1

Set a time with your partner to sit down and look back at your old photos together. Go through each others Facebook photo album and just soak in the nostalgia of how it all started. What were the highlights of your relationship? As you review the photos and recall those funny but romantic stories, you might remember a special incident or event that sparks joy which can be a good material for your prenuptial shoot.

2.   What Do You Both Like or Dislike?

3

Both your interests are a rich source of inspiration. They can be random activities that you both enjoyed, such as traveling, eating, driving with no specific destination or just going to some random place to chill and talk. Or you do you have any fantasies or online video prenup inspirations? Your interests will not only make you comfortable with being in front of the camera but will also make it enjoyable for both of you.

3.   Finding That Special Place For You.

4

The location of your shoot can be inspiring on its own. Whether it is a picturesque sunrise at the beach or on top of the mountain overlooking the sea of clouds, or the café at the corner of the street, these places evoke romance especially when it is a setting of a special moment. Perhaps it’s resembles the you both first met or the place where you got engaged.

Are you the one to always set the date for your outings with your friends and at first many of them will tell you that they’re joining the trip and in the end, out of 10, only 3 to 5 will join the trip? Well, here’s the process of successfully inviting your barkadas on that dream road trip you’ve been aiming for!

1. Let Them Know What’s Up

6
Hit them up on a direct message one be direct. Most people don’t like it when you talk too much so ask them straight to the point.

Answer the 5W’s (Who, What, When, Where,  Why) and give them the benefits of going to the trip. They also want to know who are coming just in case they get out of place and mostly they would like a trip with people they are close to.

You also need to segregate your friends because some are spontaneous but would back out in the end while some want things more planned out or they want to be informed ahead of time.

2.  Learn The Constraints

Not all of us are happy go lucky. Some parents are strict with their children so these might be a challenge. So you need to be a good communicator with the parents and establish trust from them.

7

Some of your friends might not also be lucky with their wallets, so if you’re going to be the host, make sure you can lend some or if you’re feeling generous, give. It’s always a “G!” when they hear “Libre” (free)

8

Remember, There’s nothing wrong in investing for moments that you will never forget.

3.  Confirmation

Once you have checked out all the constraints and solved them, it’s time to know who you will be dealing with for the trip. Have a list of goers and be persuasive. Remember that sales talk is a must for your friends. If they are still hesitant on going, use the PABEBE/TAMPO effect. It works for some people. Just pretend that you’ll hate them for not going and start moping around. It will trigger a sense of guilt in them and if you pull it off the right way then they might just come.

9

4. The Last Minute Invite

It is possible that some people you’ve invited and rejected you might have a second thought and go. So make that last minute invite and make sure to sway them into saying yes to the trip. At this point, bribery would help.

10

5. The Final Countdown

A day before your trip, you should be ready with your things and of course the people you’ll be hanging with. Unfortunately, the day before the trip is also the most crucial day because this is the moment when some of your friends might be messaging you that there could be an emergency or another reason for them to not come. So make sure to have that final countdown and immerse yourself with spirit of patience. Also, don’t forget to have backup plans for your stood-up friends.

11

On the other hand, remember that you invited them for sole reason of bonding and reconnecting with them. It doesn’t matter how many will come but how many memories you can make with each of them. Someday you’re going to be proud of yourself for planning a trip that you and your friends will never forget.
